We have all heard the saying, never stick anything smaller than your elbow in your ear but do you actually know why it is important?

Our ears are incredible parts of our bodies, they allow us to hear our friends, familes and loved ones but a lot of us take them for granted. The process and tiny parts inside our ears is very delicate.

Of course, the saying actually means do not put anything in your ears, our ears were never designed to have things put in them, whether thats cotton buds, ear phones or pen lids. When you put something in your ear, you risk irritating the thin layer of skin that surrounds your ear canal, this can lead to additional ear wax build up, bleeding and or general pain and discomfort.

Alongside this, small objects can easily get lodged in the ear canal and it can be tricky to remove, if this happens to you, do not attempt to remove the item at home, seek help from someone who specialises in ears!
