No! Wax removal using microsuction is not painful. It is actually the safest method of wax removal. It can however be fairly loud and can occasionally cause a temporary disturbance to tinnitus.

Microsuction wax removal is seperate from syringing. Microsuction uses a small hoover like machine to suck the wax out of your ears, it is a completely dry procedure making it safe to use if you have perforations in your ear drums. It’s also a lot less mess! We do however, if needed use a process called Irrigation, which is a much safer and more controlled wax removal using water.

Great question, having a wax removal done can improve your current level of hearing if you have no underlying hearing loss. Don’t worry I will check for this too!

Introductions

• I will greet you at your door, and introduce myself.
• I will need access to a plug socket and a clear area to set up my equipment.
• I will ask to use your sink to wash my hands, don’t worry I will use my own soap! Hygiene is incredibly important in any type of health care.

The Procedure

• I will start off by asking you a series of questions related to your hearing health and general health, please don’t be alarmed as these questions are routine and important for my professional record keeping. This information also allows me to complete your appointment safely.
• I will explain how the procedure works and anything I (and you) may need to do during the procedure.
• I will perform a health check on your ears.
• I will complete the procedure.

Post Procedure

• I will perform a post procedure health check on your ears.
• I will tidy up my work area.

And that is your appointment complete, all in around 30 minutes.
